It's More Than Just Music
To all the college kids out there, there are some questions that people will ask you at least once every day. After asking what you are majoring someone might say why?
That is the question that by the end of your college years you will be tired of hearing, but trust me when I tell you, if you are able to be honest with yourself and really ask yourself why and you can answer it without rolling your eyes or giving any simple and fast reason, then you will have no regrets.
In this post you will read the eyeopening moment when the youngest writer of the family who is currently in college was able to answer: WHY?
I’ve been asked a couple times why I chose to major in Music Business. My answer would always be, “well I love music.” But for the first time ever, one of my professors asked every student to say why we chose it. In that moment I kind of froze. I didn’t know what to say, so I just said “I love music and I think God gave me a talent to reach out to people…. I guess.”
I went home and thought about it. One of my favorite things to do on my free time is watch videos on YouTube of people singing. Every time I watch someone sing and hear how different and how great they sing I tend to get emotional. Today I sat to watch a couple videos and I thought about the question. Why do I study music business? Some people answered “I’m not good at anything else.” Which is exactly how I feel too lol. But as I sat there watching those videos I thought, I want to be a personal manager for someone that will change someone’s life one song at a time.
One day I was told “you know; one thing people say a lot when choosing a major is follow your dream. But you have to listen to your wallet.” In that moment I was like wow you’re so right. But today I realized that if God gave you a purpose and a talent, no matter what you do He will provide. For a while it was always about the money for me, but today I just want my artist or band to reach out to everyone that is feeling down and show them that they are not alone in this world. I know that if I do what God has called me to do, He won’t let me starve and He will provide, He always has. That is the reason why I chose music business.
